How Microchipping Works
If your pet gets lost and is taken to an animal shelter or veterinarian, they will scan the microchip to read its unique code. This code represents your pet’s essential identification – it is the number used by HomeAgain to identify the pet and retrieve your contact information, which is used to contact you and reunite you with your pet.
Curious about how microchipping works? Here’s the entire process from start to finish.
RADAR
When Gina King's beloved Shih Tzu, Radar, went missing, she spent months hanging posters and visiting local animal shelters. Gina and her family eventually lost hope of ever finding the family pet.
Over a year later, Gina received a call from HomeAgain. Radar had been found! He was rescued near a freeway, nursed back to health, and identified by a vet through a HomeAgain microchip scan. A year and a half after he went missing, Radar was reunited with his family.
"I recommend that everyone who has a dog should get them microchipped with HomeAgain. What a fabulous program! I have become a true believer and will always microchip my dogs," Gina proclaimed.
BOSCO
Crystal Clayter of Los Angeles recently received the wedding gift of a lifetime, her beloved Miniature Schnauzer, Bosco, who returned home safely after having been missing for three years.
"After being groomed, Bosco was in the yard without his collar in Los Angeles, CA. The gardener left the gate open and he ran away. I actively looked for him for about two years before giving up hope. I was recently married and was on my honeymoon when my mother (which was the only contact number in the record) received a call that Bosco had been found; quite a wedding present!
Bosco was picked up in a field by Phoenix Animal Care and Control and taken to the Maricopa County [Arizona] Animal Shelter where he was scanned. They called HomeAgain. My mother drove over ten hours to pick up Bosco. There was a story that ran on the local news in Phoenix. They do not know what happened to him, but we are glad to have him back!"
This miraculous rescue surprised and delighted Crystal. "Thank you, Home Again," says Crystal, "for providing me with a success story that still astounds me and my family and everyone to whom we've told our story."
SCOOBY
"Mommy, when's Scooby gonna sleep with me again?" These were the words that Rochelle Miller had endured from her three year-old son every night before bedtime over the past eight months. Scooby, their lovable Shih Tzu, went missing from their home in late August 2006, devastating the family.
In early March, Rochelle received the phone call that she'd been craving for months. Somehow, Scooby made the trip from the Miller home in Colorado all the way to Virginia, where a veterinarian scanned his HomeAgain microchip to discover that he'd been missing for months.
"I am so grateful to HomeAgain for reuniting my family with Scooby," Rochelle confessed. "Throughout the painful process, their agents were so responsive and compassionate over the phone. They were determined to find Scooby and they succeeded -- I'd highly recommend their services to any loving pet owner."
