Great Training Tool

Best Uses :

LOVe these bells... I followed the directions and rang the bells and said "lets go outside" she started ringing them on her own within 2 days. THe only downside is that you need to remember to take them with you on vacation or are at someone else's house with your dog. Consistency will pay off though- always try to say the same commands.

This is a gift for a friend, but she was thrilled - had wanted one to begin with. The item was well made, bells have a pleasant sound and looked like it was durable enough for a puppy to play with if allowed.

I'm glad I purchased it.

Bought the Poochie Bells for my 7 week old Irish Water Spaniel Girl. Hang by front door and kick the bells on the way out and in under a week she has it down pat and rings them all by herself. Only 2 accidents and we are only one week into to training. Crate training at night, use of the bells faithfully and one very smart little girl ~:) Thanks for the great product!!

TRY THE BELLS . THEY WORK!!!

I got a new puppy (Biewer Yorkie/Shihtzu) for Christmas 2009. I think she was at least 4 months old, when I started using this. She learned to use the bells in a week or two. I was amazed! I was sure "my" dog would be one to not figure it out. I was also afraid it would become a "toy" but she only played with it a few times as a puppy. When she rings it, I ask her "Do you need to go out & go potty?" She does ring them anytime she wants to go out-not just to go potty but I always take her out, even if it hans't been long since her last trip out. She does sometimes go again. Your dog has to know that they get the opportunity to go potty every time they ring the bell or else they will probably give up using it and go back to using the nice rugs. I only tell her "no" if I know she just went and the neighbor's dogs are outside. She loves to bark at them... sigh. She will keep ringing them insistently, if I don't get to the door fast enough. When we come in, I reward her with a treat for going outside, and tell her "Good girl. Let's get a cookie. Go potty outside and get cookies." It all encourages good behavior. When I find a mess in the house, I say "Uh oh. You did a no no in the house. Oh no. You go potty outside" in more of a stern with surprised voice and she immediately lays down on her tummy all flat, chin flat on the floor and just peers up with her eyes. I don't yell. People say dogs don't know why you scold them long after an accident but they might. My dog is proof! If it was my fault for leaving her home alone too long, I clean them up & never scold her, and she STILL lays flat & looks up. She just knows I'm cleaning up a mess that she made, even with no scolding.
We have a ten year old golden retriever, who came to us from another family member & he is scared of the bells, if I ring them to teach him but he has been a scaredy cat(dog) since he was a puppy. Old dog. New trick. Not happening. He just sits in front of the door & waits for someone to see him & let him out. He would hold it for two days if he had too.

Hmmm... just started to wonder: if I put bells on the outside, would she ring them, when she's ready to come in instead of barking or me waiting for her?

We thought our 10-week-old mini-goldendoodle might be too young for this but she took to it immediately. She now "rings" it every time she needs to go out. We went from having many accidents to having virtually none in only a few days.

I first used it as a "house-breaking" tool, but it has now become the main "speaker" for my dog! She rings it to go out, when she is hungry, and when she wants to play or go for a ride/walk! When she rings it many times in a row I know she really means BUSINESS!!

POTTY TRAINING SUCCESS

Pros :
Durable, Easy to Use, Effective, Improves Behavior
Best Uses :
Large Dogs, Puppies

WE WERE HAVING A HARD TIME TEACHING OUR 3 MONTH OLD GOLDEN RETRIEVER TO LET US KNOW SHE HAD TO GO OUT. WE DID NOT WANT HER SCRATCHING UP OUR NEW DOOR, AND WE DID NOT WANT TO ENCOURAGE BARKING. THE BELLS CAME WITH SIMPLE DIRECTIONS. WE IMMEDIATELY PUT THEM INTO ACTION. WE HUNG THEM WITH A "COMMAND STRIP" SILVER HOOK RIGHT BY OUR DOOR. AFTER THREE DAYS OF TRAINING OUR DOG WAS CONSISTENTLY RINGING HER BELLS WITH HER NOSE TO GO OUTSIDE. THEY ARE ATTRACTIVE AND WELL MADE. EVERYONE WHO SEES THEM IN ACTION ARE SO IMPRESSED!

Great Tool in the Potty Training Jouney!
By Jess from Franlin, WV on 09/15/2010
Pros :
Durable, Easy to Use, Effective, Improves Behavior
Best Uses :
Potty training, Puppies
Describe Yourself :
Long-time Pet Owner

I used these bells to train my little "pound puppy" to notify me when he had to go outside. We rang them every time we stepped outside and he quickly got the hang of it. One caveat to use... he quickly learned that ringing gets him outside regardless of his need to potty (i.e., play, squirrels, etc.). After he got the hang of ringing the bells, I would ask if he "had to go potty?" Eventually, I was able to ask him and get an answer and weaning off the bells!
