Choosing the Perfect Gate

  1. Size needed
  2. Height needed to contain your dog(s)
  3. Special features to fit your lifestyle
  4. Your dog's chewing habits
  5. Preference for mounting
  6. The color and finish of your home

When looking for the right pet gate solution, thinking through a few things first will make your first choice the perfect choice. We've identified six criteria that will help you choose the right gate for your dog - and your home.

Size

Different sizes and styles of openings require different types of pet gates. We've identified the four most common types of openings that you'll find in your home, and the perfect dog gates to fit each and every one.

Standard Wide Opening or Hall Irregular Numerous

Standard door openings span from 32 - 36" in width. We offer many stylish gates that are compact yet functional and will fit perfectly in standard door openings

If you're looking for a gate to fit your extra-wide doorway or to span the length of the hall, we offer a number of gates that range from 36 - 72" wide.

If you're working with an irregular or offset opening, consider a gate with hinged panels - they conform to any shape and easily cover tricky openings.

Not ready to commit? There's no need - many of our gates telescope to fit a variety of openings, so you can move them from room to room or take them to the office.

Height

If you have a large dog (or an active jumper!), you'll need a pet gate with enough height to keep her where you want her. Extra-tall dog gates are perfect for bigger dogs - and smaller ones with a talent for jumping.

For smaller dogs, our short dog gates are perfect for smaller breeds, and at heights as low as 20" tall they won't get in your way.

Special features

Our pet gates are specially designed to fit your life, with a variety of convenient features to suit your home and family.

If you're a multiple pet owner and your smaller pets need full range of the house, don't worry - a variety of our dog gates feature small pet doors that keep your larger pets contained while allowing the little ones walk right on through.

Not a fan of stepover gates? Try one with a walk-through human door. Easy to use, these doors keep your dog contained and leave you free to roam.

If you have children, you'll want a gate with a child-proof latch to keep everyone safe.

Chewing habits

Some dogs just love the taste of wood. They'll gnaw on it in any form, whether it's a stick to play fetch, or - a gate intended to keep them out of trouble. If your dog is a wood aficionado, we recommend investing in a metal gate.

Preference for mounting

If you need a style that you can move easily, you'll want a freestanding gate. These are fully portable, simple to transport, and many feature adjustable sliding width to cover a variety of openings. They're also perfect for bringing your four-legged companion to the office - simply pop it up in a doorway and keep your dog where he's allowed.

Looking for something a little more permanent? Try one of our pressure mount gates. Their rubber stops won't damage walls, and they lock in place with the turn of a knob.

If you need something rugged, try one of our wall mount gates - they're simple to install yet tough for your dog to budge.

We offer gates in a variety of finishes that perfectly complement your home decor. Choose from our selection of beautiful wooden and metal gates.
