That's Good Stuff
Delighted with this product
By smoothsailing from Yarmouth ME on 05/14/2008
Pros :
Adjustable, Good Value, No digging, Portable
Cons :
Limited to circular, Metal can block field, Transmitter indoors
Bottom Line :
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

We have used this as our primary containment system for two years and love it. It has some great advantages over wired systems but you also need to understand its limitations.
AREA. I initially wondered if the maximum area was big enough. We have 5 acres and the area seemed small in comparison. It has proved more than adequate and keeps the dogs close. We play in the rest of the yard when we are out with them.
PORTABILITY. We also take it when we travel. The field is easy to adjust. We use max setting at our house and a very low setting at our lake cottage. Simply plug in, quickly test the field and set the pin flags at the new location.
OTHER THINGS TO BE AWARE OF.
This system works opposite to most systems. When you are within the field it deactivates the collar. When outside the field the collar triggers. It puts out a spherical electromagnetic field from the transmitter. The instructions al show circular field(2 dimensional) but you really need to think of it as a sphere (3 Dimensional). Metal objects between the transmitter and the desired boundary may block a segment of the field. For example it could be blocked by a refrigerator or washer. I had to set mine higher at home to avoid a metal skylight edging. I now have it on a shelf in an upstairs closet and have no problems. At my in laws I set on the first floor and even though there are appliances in line they have never caused a significant problem-or the dogs have not been smart enough to find that small gap. Never let your dog jump in your car with the collar on. The metal in the car body blocks the field and triggers the collar.
Some people will not like the idea of another electromagnetic field. I would also like to see a model that could be set outdoors. The transmitter must be protected from the weather
I will never use a wired fence as long as this is available.
