Used on my 14 year old 80 lb Belgian Shepherd who had rear leg problems. Allowed me to securely help him to stand, without hurting him or me! Harness covers the mid-section of dog, so I could lift him as I would a 'suitcase'! Because of this harness, I was able to keep my TedBear around for many extra months, through blizzards, ice and Nor'easters. Highly recommend especially for large, older dogs!

I have one of these for our 12lb chinese crested and another for our 75lb boxer/dalmation mix, and I wouldn't hike without them. Gives great control of the dogs when negotiating trails, and I like the ease of grip the handle offers. I consider it especially good for off leash hiking when I must suddenly restrain my dogs for a moment, and our crested is perfectly comfortable being picked up by it and carried like luggage when the trails get to technical for her to navigate unassisted. I love how the underside is lined in soft, padded polar fleece, along with the padding on the straps, yet the cut is sparing enough that it doesn't seem to overheat them.

I wouldn't call it an every day type harness, it is a significant chunk of fabric and webbing to ask a dog to wear on a daily basis, and it is somewhat difficult to clean, with lots of nooks and crannies to cake dirt into if your dog likes to roll in mud/grass. But since they are a 'special' hiking only harnesses in our house, our dogs dance around with glee when we take them out. After our hikes, I put mine in a large mesh delicates bag and toss them in the laundry, then let air dry - problem solved.

Overall, I consider these harnesses invaluable gear for the active dog owner and recommend them without reservation.

This product is great for my large 80lb. Shepard Lab who is 12 years old and is beginning to have trouble getting up off the floor. I am able to help her stand herself until she is stable to walk. I really needed something like this to help her out especially when we are out for our walks.

I ordered the harness for some good friends of mine that have a 14 year old large Yellow Lab named Free. She has been having problems over the last year or so with arthritis and she slips and falls a great deal when climbing or descending stairs and has trouble just getting up from a lie down position. She was an excellent hunting dog in her youth and is basically retired now. She now shares her home with her new brother, Field, an energetic Boykin Spaniel puppy that is training to be the new hunting dog. Field is constantly knocking into her and racing past her, behaving like a typical hyper pup, but sometimes causing her to fall or slip. It is wonderful to be able to help her stand up and assist her in going up and down stairs simply by holding the handle on the harness. The harness is comfortable enough to leave on her all the time and doesn't appear to bother her in the least. Before the harness, there were times when she had fallen on the stairs, etc and the kids or wife had been unable to help her back up on there own. Now they are able to use the handle to help her up or down the stairs, so she doesn't fall in the first place. But just incase she does they are able to help her back up now. It has been a god-send for the whole family and will allow Free to be a little more comfortable as she lives out her remaining years. I also have a 5 year old chocolate lab and plan to get one for her to use when she gets older. What a wonderful product.

I use this product when going on outdoor adventures; such as hiking in all sorts of terrain. He climbs over fallen trees with me, up boulders and occassionally jumps puddles. The BEST thing and reason I bought this harness is the lower belly strap. The overall design allows you to pick the dog up without hurting him. The feel on my end if a very balanced lift. The material has reflective colors so he is easy to find in brush or evening light. The only option I would like to have is a second harness with more breathable material for the summer months. The top portion seems a little hot but it is perfect for fall and adjusts nicely so I can fit it over his winter coat.

The harness arrived just after we had a big snow and was greatly helpful in getting our 16 year old Lab outdoors. He is arthritic and the added stability allows him to negotiate a few steps with assistance. After a few days he moves more confidently with the assist.

This harness is great - I purchased it for my 15yr old labby girl.
Before the harness she had some mobility issues and was not getting the exercise needed to keep her legs stable, and therefor didn't want to walk much. Now with the harness, we were able to stabilize both her front and back legs, to give her more confidence in walking, and buliding her muscle tone back again - Now she walks quite well on her own, and actually wants to go for walks.
We mistakenly put the harness on backwards...(a little harder to put on) But in putting in on this way, it didn't slip on her and enabled us to stabilize her much better.
I might also mention that we have spent lots-o-$$$ on other harnesses, that just have not worked as well as this one.
I would highly reccomend this to anyone who has an elderly dog or a dog that is recovering from surgery, Well worth the money.

I love this thing. My dog is strong and we run everyday off road and run into all kinds of things. This harness is so easy to put on, so so durable, and gives me total control over her. I am very happy with it.

My dogs were in-between sizes, so I got the smaller one for a more athletic fit (recommended on Ruff Wear website), good choice.

Hiking is a dream as I can pull my OMG-there's-water-and-I-forgot-all-obediance lab out of the river a lot easier, as well as assisting both dogs going up embankments and scrambling up rocks. This is an incredible piece of equipment for them (and me!)!

Wonderful at the dog park - with the red color it is easy to spot my black lab among the many black labs that frequent the park!

(the visibility is also great at the barn when they are out in the pastures. Easy to spot the red among the legs of the horses)

Our Aussie who has ALWAYS pulled regardless of harness or collar type and despite training, just relaxes and is actually super responsive to the lightest adjustment to the leash while wearing this harness. It's like a miracle! Sheltie who doesn't like to walk and resists in backward pull, actually puts on a smile, wags her tail and trots out with this harness. A second miracle! Planning on ordering a second harness for sheltie. Have already referred several people to this product!
