Perfect. It doesn't get any better
Great Gate!
By Billy's Momm (Beagles) from Brick, New Jersey on 01/18/2012
Pros :
Easy Assembly, Easy to Transport, Effective, Lightweight, Safe, Secure, Sleek beautiful
Best Uses :
Home Safety, Office items protected, Small Dogs

I have this gate in my office doorway to protect low lying projects Billy likes to bring out to the livingroom and lay on.

It is 'see through' easy to clean, sleek and beautiful for a gate.

I love everything about this gate! If you are in need of a gate, this is the one for you! No matter what you research or the prices, this is the best gate ever and it's not my first gate, just wish it was!

Love my gate!!
By Carole from Atkinson, NH on 12/29/2011
Pros :
Easy Assembly, Effective, Safe, Secure
Best Uses :
Large Dogs

Everyone comments on what a "beautiful" gate I have. The bronze metal looks very upscale and compliments my house which I have spent a lot of money and time to decorate. It is very easy to open/close one-handed when carrying stuff and keeps my 70 pound, 6 month old doberman well contained when she wants to chase the cat or get into restricted areas of the house.

That's Good Stuff
My dog has defeated this gate, but...
By Octopus Gallery from Alexandria, VA on 12/02/2011
Pros :
Easy Assembly, Easy to Transport, Effective, Safe, Secure
Cons :
Heavy
Best Uses :
Home Safety, Large Dogs

I bought this gate after my 60 lbs. bull-something managed to chew through a heavy wooden gate and a wall-mounted metal baby gate. The metal baby gate had thin bars and cheap welds so the thick, sturdiness of this gate was instantly appealing. It's a very attractive gate in design and color and very easy to assemble. Mostly you just need to put it in the spot you want it and you're good to go.

Unless you have my dog. Oh no, she found a way to defeat this gate. If you have a dog who is both strong of jaw and smarter than is good for her, it is possible for her to figure out how to unhinge the gate. Lifting and yanking on the hinge side will eventually get it open by pulling out the bottom axle. However! If you wrap something like gardening wire (nice because it's coated) around the top of the hinge axle, this will prevent your genius from being able to pull it up enough to yank out of place.

Next, the latch is lovely. Well, it's less lovely now that it's been chewed thoroughly and warped from the weight of the door hanging on it after being on hinged, but by golly, it still latches. My MENSA candidate could not figure out how to unseat it from underneath. Instead, she moved a near-by end table over to the point where she could leap on top and pull the latch open from above. Of course I don't blame my dog's ability to move furniture on the gate, but perhaps a locking mechanism should be considered for future versions. I am currently trying a complicated array of carabiners because I don't have any chain in the house and I'm betting that she won't develop thumbs at this point in her life.

Finally, the finish does not hold up to very determined chewing or claws. However, as the metal underneath rust pretty quickly, you can't actually see a lot of difference in color.

The one way my troublemaker has not defeated this gate is by pushing it down. I don't think that thing has budged from the moment I got it fixed into place. Any damage to the surrounding wall was caused purely by her claws. I am a person of, shall we say, large stature and I couldn't budge it either. I would definitely recommend this for anyone with a large dog who usually just pushes through things.

Needs That Special Something
Not quite wide enough....
By YuCallHimTape from Dallas, TX on 11/09/2011
Pros :
Easy Assembly
Cons :
Difficult to Transport, Heavy
Best Uses :
Large Dogs

The maximum width listed is 40". That is the measurement when the tension mounts are fully extended. If you need to cover 40", the tension mounts don't seem to be very sturdy. If you need to cover 37", I feel they would be sturdy enough at that length. I would not recommend this gate for 38"+.

I can't follow instructions but i put this gate up in minutes. It's exactly what we hoped it would be when ordering. Keeps our two large dogs in their half of the house. Well constructed, attractive. It's a great gate.

Great gate!

This gate looks very good and is easy to set up. I use it to block off the end of an outdoor foyer, where I have set up a wee pad for my puppy. It allows me to let the puppy out at night, etc. without having to get him suited up in harness before he has to go. It's also nice to let him run out in the foyer and observe the activity outside while I check on the weather to decide what jacket I may need to wear on our walk. It harmonizes well with a metal fence in my entrance way, and it is easy to open and close (the gate works in either direction). I'm very satisfied with the purchase.

Average, Ordinary
Not great for small dogs
By The Bean from Austin, TX on 03/31/2011
Pros :
Easy Assembly, Lightweight
Cons :
Ineffective
Best Uses :
Large Dogs
Describe Yourself :

The gates are beautiful but beware of misleading dimensions. Yes, you can extend the gate to span widths indicated. However, you then leave large gaps to the sides that small dogs can pass through. Do not chose this product if you have small dogs!

Needs That Special Something
Disappointing fit
By JW from Longview, TX on 01/21/2011
Pros :
Easy Assembly, Easy to Transport, Effective, Lightweight, Safe
Cons :
Gap between doorgate, Ineffective
Best Uses :
Large Dogs
Describe Yourself :

Gap between door and gate FAR to big with 32" door for small breeds. Nice look and works smoothly BUT dog can go between door and gate faster than I can operate. Needs attachment for doors of this width. Only get if have large dog or door close to smaller size listed on gate.

Perfect!

Pros :

Our 85 lb English Bulldog pushed through the self-closing gates we have had before this. At wit's end, we decided to invest the extra money in this one and it has not disappointed. He is finally and securely confined to the area of our choice, not his. Thank you, FetchDog!
