The instinct for dogs to have their own dens can be traced to when they lived in the wild and slept in shallow holes dug in the ground where they were protected from predators and from the elements. Dogs have retained this instinct and consequently love having their own cozy haven in the form of a dog crate.

In addition to proving safety and security, crate training speeds up your puppy's housebreaking (because your dog will be reluctant to use their crate as a bathroom) and helps discourage destructive behavior such as chewing.
