To Clean the Unit:
First, make sure there is no moisture on the screen. Sometimes when dogs drink out of the spout they flick water upwards and it hangs in the screen, causing the unit to think that there’s something there when there isn’t.
Also, the valve on the inside could very well be stuck in the "open" position, sometimes it gets bumped there, sometimes it’s because it just gets stuck. The cleaning will help to unstick the plunger and valve and should help it to work correctly.
Troubleshooting Issues:
Your fountain may be leaking at the spout if:
1. There is dirt in the valve. Take your fountain apart and inspect it for small bits of dirt or plastic plugging the holes. it doesn’t happen often, but occasionally small plastic bits leftover from manufacturing get forced into the unit and clog the holes.
2. Your solenoid plunger is damaged.
Take your fountain apart and inspect the solenoid. If the small, black rubber tip of the plunger is damaged, you’ll need a solenoid replacement kit.
B)Your fountain might be running even though there is nothing there if there is moisture on the screen. Occasionally, moisture may build up behind the screen. It will be noticeable from the outside so there is no need to open up the fountain. Take a hair dryer and blow dry the screen. This usually solves the problem and it rarely happens again.
