For 4 years my Boston Terrier slept with a small heating pad (from Walgreens - technically for humans) that I had gotten for $20. It had 3 different heat settings and we never needed more than the Low setting. It finally started showing its age so to be safe, I tossed it since I was excited to see this heated blanket made specifically for dogs.

This blanket is big, so it would be great for a larger dog. The blanket part detaches very easily from the inner heating part for machine washing. The exterior blanket is very nice and soft, but the heating unit inside is a little stiff, so this is not a blanket that your dog can very easily roll up/cuddle in. I think it's best used to lay either on top of or under.

The heat does NOT get very warm at all and there are no different settings. It is a very very light heat, so it's not good for cold temperatures. Our dog requires more warmth at night (our bedroom gets a little cool at night) than this blanket provides. That said, because it doesn't get super warm and is made specifically for dogs, I feel comfortable/safe leaving it out and plugged in for my dog when I'm not at home.

In the end, I wish I had just gone back to Walgreens or CVS and bought another little heating blanket (and I still may just do that). It would have been far less expensive and much more suited to our purposes.
