The idea of traveling with your dog is a great one - it’s guaranteed to add a little excitement and fun to your trip, while alleviating the worries associated with leaving your dog at the kennel or with a sitter. However, the preparation involved in dog friendly travel might seem overwhelming. At FetchDog we’ve tried to simplify the task by coming up with a list of dog travel essentials.

Dog Friendly Car Trip Checklist

Travel Dog Bowl – You’ve got your super-sized iced latte. Make sure your parched pup stays hydrated too by packing a dog travel bowl. Happily slurping without the slopping.

• Food & Dog Treats – You wouldn’t want to be hungry on the road, and neither would your dog! Just make sure you closely monitor your dog’s food consumption when you’re on the road so he or she doesn’t get a tummy ache.

Portable Dog Crate – An airy lightweight palace. Dogs feel safe and comfortable. Perfect for sleeping, too, when you get where you’re going.

Dog Car Harness – Buckle up Toto, we’re going to Kansas. With just two simple clicks, your dog is safe, secure and ready to roll, er, stay put with a dog car harness.

Dog Car Seat - The closest thing to space travel in a confined space.  Dog booster seats also work as car seats for dogs. Perfect for small dog travel and helpful with preventing car sickness (for the dog).

Back Seat Dog Barrier – Protects your dog from sudden stops and allows you to focus on driving, not constantly relocating your dog back into the back seat.

Dog Car Seat Cover – Smart and basic lounging protection for the back seat.

Dog Car Ramp – Provides easy access to SUVs, pickup trucks and other lofty places. Ramps are designed especially for older dogs and small dogs with short legs.

Dog Cleanup Bags – Make sure you have supplies to clean up, well, you know…

Dog Toy – Car trips are fun. Bring a toy along to make sure your dog is enjoying the experience as much as you are!

Leash – Nothing is scarier than your dog running off in an unknown place. Make sure you have a dog leash handy.

Identification Tags – The last thing you want is for your dog to get lost, but in case your dog runs off, make sure your pet has up-to-date identification to help ensure that he’s returned to you no matter where you are.

• HomeAgain Chip – A microchip is a tiny transponder inserted below the skin of a pet, acting as permanent identification in case your pet gets lost. If your dog hasn’t been microchipped, a trip is a great reason to have it done. Contact your vet about microchipping your dog.

First Aid Kit – Everything you might need in case of an accident. A first aid kit for your dog is a good thing to have just in case.
