It’s often said that dogs will eat anything—after all, they’re not cats!—but that’s not always the case. Sometimes, puppies develop a silver palate early on and turn their noses up at certain foods they find less than palatable.
If you find you need to refrigerate a portion of canned puppy food, don’t stick the can in the fridge with a plastic lid on it. The food just won’t taste the same if it’s stored in the can, and the discerning young pup might refuse it outright when you try to serve it to him later.
Instead, designate a clean plastic food-storage container for puppy leftovers and store them consistently in that container, taking care to wash it thoroughly and regularly. Allow the food to sit for a couple of minutes to attain room temperature, then serve. If puppy still doesn’t eat, it’s time to switch to smaller cans that don’t leave leftovers behind—or feed your puppy dry food.
