The sight of an Irish Setter dashing across an open field is a feast for the eyes. His flowing, silky coat waves in the breeze like a medieval banner fluttering in the wind, and it is impossible not to feel the ecstasy of the dog as he moves in flight. Although a wonderful house pet, this large setter is a valuable member of any hunting party that is after upland birds, and is highly skilled at this occupation, a job he thoroughly enjoys. A Setter lucky enough to work the field rather than prance around in the show hall finds the birds, becomes perfectly still, points to them in his unique setting fashion, and then retrieves them after the shots are fired. His exuberance, his energy, his love of the field and, of course, his appealing canine beauty set him apart in the homes of dog-loving humans, where the Irish Setter is a much-admired pet.
