The Beauceron
You have probably never seen one. Or, if you have, you might have mistaken him, from afar, as some kind of Doberman mix...or wait, up close he looks like a Shepherd mix...or some kind of a Lab? Actually, the Beauceron is much more like a Briard without all that shaggy coat. What, you have never seen a Briard, either? Granted, the ancient French herding dogs are not the most popular breeds in America. In fact, they are downright rare on this side of the pond. But the Beauceron has so much going for it that his rarity may not last - the AKC recognized him in early 2007 and now the whip-smart thinker with the frank expression is getting a lot more exposure now.
