Health-conscious people take care to filter their tap water, especially when filling a child’s sippy cup, yet it doesn’t always occur to them to do the same for their dogs. Perhaps the single most important thing you can share with your best friend – and the simplest to prepare! – is clean, fresh water, filtered to remove unwanted chemicals and sediments. (If you haven’t got a filter or you’re on the road, use bottled spring water.)

Make clean water available to your dog at all times, in a ceramic or metal bowl that’s washed often. Or if you're going away for a long period of time, consider an automatic waterer. And if you moisten your dog’s kibble with water, or serve him a dehydrated diet that’s reconstituted with water, please use the filtered (or bottled) water for that too.
