Whatever Floats Your Coat

By Kristen Lainsbury

In the spring, an old dog's fancy turns to thoughts of swimming.

At least, that's how it goes in our house. Cassidy, our 13-year-old Golden Retriever mix, never met a body of water she didn't like. And when we head to the lake, she could spend the entire day splashing around, swimming after sticks, trying to catch loons.

And therein lies the problem. Cassidy's mind may want to spend the whole day in the water, but her body has other ideas.

Thank goodness for the Dog Lifejackets from FetchDog.com. For Cassidy, the Portage Float Coat Dog Lifejacket from Ruff Wear is the perfect fit - it will keep her buoyant and safe, but still allow her to move freely. Once she's had enough (or, more likely, too much), we can lift her out of the water with the attached handle.

But these jackets aren't just for old dogs. They're perfect for dogs of any age to wear while boating or during other circumstances that may land your dog in the water unexpectedly. If you like your dog to tag along during whitewater rafting trips or just live near rough, swift-moving water, the Big Eddy Float Coat Dog Lifejacket from Ruff Wear is just the thing to keep your hound safe and sound. It gets its buoyancy from heavy-duty foam that will keep your dog afloat in rough conditions or over the course of long swims.

For Cassidy, long swims are what spring and summer are all about. And even though she doesn't move quite as quickly as she used to, the pure joy of leaping off the dock into the lake makes her look - and feel - like a puppy again.
