The Dog Days of Winter

Lately, it's been so cold where we live that even Stella and Cassidy don't want to stay outside for long. And they each have a fur coat.

But there are days when even the hardiest of dogs could use an extra layer of protection against the elements. That's why we love the dog coats that Fetch Dog offers. Here in Maine, we tend to gravitate toward the wind- and weather-resistant offerings from Polartec, but there are plenty of options - including adorable quilted jackets, barn coats and reversible down parkas - that are suitable for milder climates or warmer days.

After a winter walk, our dogs like to flop down in front of the fireplace and make themselves cozy. Don't have a fireplace? No problem, especially if you have a warm dog bed. We're wild about the Cozy Cave, a faux-shearling-lined microsuede bed that surrounds your dog in comfort. Smaller breeds will love the Luxury Nest Trundle Bed, a furry tube that your dog can snuggle up in.

For dog owners who need to leave their dogs outside or in an unheated garage for extended periods of time, I recommend a heated dog bed. The Lectro-Soft Outdoor Heated Dog bed and the Lectro-Kennel Heated Dog Bed both can be used indoors or out. When they come inside, your dogs will love to snuggle in the Thermo-Pet Heated Dog Throw - it's even better than sneaking up on the couch.

Cold, dry weather takes its toll on your dog's skin, too, but a rubdown with Woof Paw and Fur Balm will change all that. This all-natural salve soothes hot spots and cracked paws, and the rosemary-lavender scent will leave you feeling like you're at a spa. A really furry spa.

With all of these warm, soothing options, your dogs will be begging to go outside. Even on the coldest days.
