The Birth of Kurgo - Dog Travel Made Easy

Kurgo

In 2003, I started Kurgo in a Pratt Institute broom closet as a pilot incubator program.  Although the space was small, my mission was large; to develop high-quality products that solve problems people encounter every day.  The first pet product we developed was the Kurgo Backseat Barrier.  This was created out of the anxiety that my wife Erica and I felt every time we traveled with our dog Zelda in the car.  Zelda is a 70-pound energetic Plott Hound who had the dangerous habit of standing on the center armrest or trying to climb in the front of the car.  Working with my brother and business partner, Gordon Spater, we designed an elegant and innovative dog car barrier and have seen it though to fruition.  The final product is the result of two and a half years of experimentation with designs and materials.  The Backseat Barrier creates a flexible fabric partition that attaches to the front two seats, creating a strong wall between the front and back of the car.

We are always in the search for innovative designs that solve problems and would love to hear from you!
