Raining dogs and coats

When we adopted our dog Faith from a gritty urban shelter it was a mean New Jersey winter. Faith was already 2 and, we figured, had seen and done it all. Part Beagle, part Pit, part Lab: hybrid hardiness personified, right?

And then it rained, and the Rain-Rejecting Diva of Hoboken was born. Oh, no: she was NOT going out in that mess.

As soon as I opened the door on a spring shower, Faith didn't just stage a sit-down strike. She somehow instantly quintupled her body weight so we just couldn't move her.

Seven years, lots of training, and five handsome dog raincoats later, she's a different dog.

Weather-Proof Polartec Dog FleeceIt was the miracle of the raincoat that changed Faith, and will help your dog, even if he willingly plunges into monsoons. For really crummy weather, we use the Weatherproof Polartec Fleece Dog Coat, which, in addition to being sturdily waterproof, offers extra warmth via fleece insulation - important  for the short-haired older lady Faith has become. Trust meSun Shower Rain Dog Jacket: if the rainy chill is getting into your bones, it's getting into your dog's. Warmer dog = longer, better walks.

For those quicker, warmer, "C'mon, I have to get to work even if you don't" walks, I like to wrap my Jersey diva in a lighter dog coat. The Sun Shower Rain Dog Jacket looks just the way it sounds: it's a waterproof ray of sunshine, and it makes passersby smile. What a great way for us both to start a rainy day.
