New and Snout-worthy

When the latest FetchDog catalog arrived, I jumped and rolled over. Our neighbors must've though I'm barking mad, but I don't care. At our house, dogs rule (and our cat really does drool -- I'm not just saying that because it rhymes).

The catalog is jam-packed with goodies for active dogs and their owners. And in the coming weeks, this blog will focus on fun products that make taking your dog for a walk -- or a run, bike ride, hike, swim or sail -- a breeze. Today's post is all about my favorite new products for warmer weather, however.

On a hot summer afternoon, I'm more of a lazybones than an adventurer, and so is my 12-year-old Golden Retriever mix, Cassidy. We both could benefit from the Lawn Lounger dog bed, which I've dubbed the canine chaise. This beautiful bed is upholstered in weather-resistant fabric, yet it doesn't trade form for function. Summery stripes and a floral contrast will add a burst of color to your deck, patio or lawn.

Speaking of a burst of color, the Cool Mesh Dog Harness is just the thing to keep your dog calm, cool and collected. Its bright colors -- and adorable bone charm -- are perfect for even the most fashion-forward of dog owners. But it's more than just a pretty face (or torso, as the case may be). The harness will keep your dog under control and its breathable mesh fabric is perfect for even the dog days of summer.

If you prefer to wait until after sundown to head outdoors, try the Northern Lights Reflective Dog Harness and Leash. Also made of breathable mesh, this will keep you and your dog safe and sound on an evening stroll.

Cassidy never met a body of water she didn't like, including a pool, and on a hot day, it's almost impossible to keep her from jumping in. Unfortunately, hasn't been nearly as easy to get her out. Until now. The Scamper Dog Ramp attaches to a pool deck -- and even some boats -- and provides enough traction to help your dog get out of the water as easily -- and safely -- as she jumped in.

And what would a day in the water be like without some Beach Creatures? Of the dog toy variety, that is. These squeaky toys are durable enough for even razor-sharp puppy teeth, and the designs could not be cuter. Here in Maine, we're partial to the lobster, but the rest of the seaworthy crew is quite adorable, too.

Finally, for our nutty Belgian Malinois, Stella, I would choose Wild Things, fuzzy plush toys that look like Muppets and sound like a circus (they have not one, but two squeakers -- ideal for the attention-deficit dog). You'd think all that faux fur would get gross after a few rounds in your dog's mouth, but they're machine-washable, and they come out looking brand new.

And as FetchDog's spring/summer collection proves, brand new never looked better.
