My Furry Valentine

By Kristen Lainsbury

Though they're seven years apart in age, Stella and Cassidy had pretty much the same start in this world. They were born and abandoned shortly thereafter. In each case, my husband and I walked into the local Humane Society, took one look at them and knew they were the ones.

They call it puppy love.

Years later, we still adore them, and we're always looking for great ways to show it. Sometimes, that means a Kong filled with a mixture of peanut butter and puppy treats. In the warmer months, that could mean a long walk followed by a swim. And on Valentine's Day, that means going all out.

This year, I'm having a hard time narrowing down my options. Do I get them "jewelry"? FetchDog's new Vintage Dog ID Tags are the canine equivalent of a Tiffany charm bracelet.

They're both wild about accessories - or maybe it's just the fact that when the collars and leashes come out, they know a walk is imminent. Either way, a Stitched Suede Wide Dog Collar and Leash are a timeless, durable choice. For V-Day, I like the pink option.

I can't really take Stella and Cassidy out to dinner, but I can make their at-home dining experience a little more elegant with a stylish new Dog Bowl and Feeder. There are so many choices that I'm sure to find something that fits our decor - and the girls' uncompromising taste.

And while a box of chocolates is out of the question for dogs, a box - or bag, or can - of Dog Treats is not. I could go all healthy and get them some Greenies or some Hip and Joint Treats, but Valentine's Day is no time for practicality. I'm thinking decadence - like rawhide bones or Bichon Fries.

So many choices, so little time. I'd better decide fast. But regardless of what I choose, one thing's for sure: For Valentine's Day, I'm putting on the dog.
