Home Again for Christmas

Posted on Dec 12, 2007 By Elizabeth Edwardsen
Several years ago, a big standard poodle was found wandering several states away from my house in Maine. He had no tags, no collar even. He was super friendly and super stinky, thanks to what was probably months worth of hair growth while he wandered. I’ll never know his back story, but I do know that he probably had a nice family once upon a time. If his first family had used a microchip for extra ID, that nice poodle may have found his way home instead of into the poodle rescue network and, eventually, to my house. My dogs have beautiful collars and tags, but they’ve also got microchips for permanent ID. For Christmas this year, they are getting Home Again Gift Memberships, which add to the microchips’ protection by sending out lost dog alerts if they get lost. The program will give me free calls to the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center. That peace of mind makes the membership a present for the whole family.
