Gentle Leader® Easy Walk Harness & Leash

Lucky leaps for joy.  He also leaps AT cars, people he likes, and basically anything that takes his fancy.

With his big chest, long legs, and full-body snuggling, three-year-old Lucky's probably a hearty blend of American Staffordshire Terrier and American Bulldog. That's the best guess of Juan, Lucky's owner. Not that long ago, Juan adopted Lucky from a New York City shelter, and kept the name along with the dog.  Now you can see them bounding along the streets of the East Village.

But because Lucky's joyous jumps have gotten the pooch into some unlucky scrapes, Juan's focusing on training his big boy to contain Lucky's lurches. Juan's using a Gentle Leader Easy Walk Dog Harness because it's both smart and humane. Smart:  the harness is designed so that with a deft and simple tug, you can slow down and steer your pup away from trouble. Because of their design, old-fashioned harnesses actually "taught" dogs to pull harder against your corrections.  Humane: this easy walk dog harness trains the dog by slightly hugging the chest and shoulders, rather than "charging" the neck the way a choke collar does.  Juan says the Easy Walk has saved both of their lives.

Made by the same company, the traditional Gentle Leader Headcollar, a "snoot loop" that fits around a dog's head and snout, can also be a terrific training solution. But remember, this is for dogs who have hearty snoots, like my pit beagle Faith.  For proud owners of  flat-faced breeds such as pugs, Boston Terriers, and boxers, you're better off with the Easy Walk.
