Bright Ideas

Here in New England, the leaves are starting to change colors, there's a chill in the air and darkness comes early.

Since fall is my favorite season, I couldn't be happier. The dogs? Not so much. Short days mean short walks.

Well, they used to, anyway.

For Stella and Cassidy, the future looks bright, thanks to a few ingenious products that will light the way to safety.

The ReflectaBones Dog Collar, Dog Harness and Leash aren't just practical - they're adorable. Wrapped in stylish, embroidered, reflective ribbon (in a cute bone pattern), this set is just the thing for a dog that doesn't want to compromise style for substance.

In the light of day, Cassidy and Stella are so cute that it's hard for people not to notice them. But during a nighttime stroll on a shadowy sidewalk, it's a different story. The Rufflective Vest Dog Coat is just the thing to make them stand out, no matter how dark and stormy the night is. The orange mesh jacket is similar to what crews wear at road construction sites, and the reflective trim will make sure nobody misses them.

So will the Beacon Dog Safety Light This battery-powered strobe is visible from up to a half-mile away, keeping dogs and humans safe after the sun goes down.

And at the end of the day, safety - and an extra half-hour of walking time - is what it's all about.
