A Toy Story

Nothing is more fun than puppy playtime in the summertime - unless you add a few of our favorite outdoor dog toys.

If your dogs are anything like ours, they're a menace to Frisbees everywhere. But even the most avid chewers are no match for the Tuff Chew Mini Disk. Made of soft, flexible rubber, they'll stand up to hours - and hours and hours - of fetch. And their bright colors ensure that you'll find them on the lawn, at the beach, even in the water.

Speaking of bright, the Meteorite LED dog ball is one flashy little number. This illuminated ball is just the thing for retrievers who still want to play after the sun goes down. The lights turn on with a flip of a switch and they change colors with each toss. Since the ball is buoyant and water-resistant, it's perfect for an evening swim, too.

Another plaything that can handle the water - and your dog's rough-and-tumble friends - is the Beachcomber Dog Toy. We like the new rocket and worm varieties, and we also like that the whole Beachcomber line is made from durable recycled mesh and molded natural rubber. These eco-friendly toys are good for a whole summer full of fun.

Now that it's summertime, the lickin' is easy. If you have one of FetchDog's Ice Lick interactive dog toys, that is. Pour water and your dog's favorite toys into the bucket mold, freeze, and place on a base that sticks into your lawn. It promises hours of cool fun for hot dogs.

Though it's technically not an outdoor toy, we are wild about the new Roughhouse Varmints plush dog toys. Whether you choose the wolf or the squirrel, these large, plush toys look just ferocious enough to pique your dog's curiosity. We're really hoping they stop our dogs from chasing after all the real-life varmints we encounter during our warm-weather walks in the woods. Wishful thinking never hurt anyone, right?

With all of these wonderful dog toys, it looks like this is shaping up to be the best summer yet.
