A stinky situation

It was a night we'll never forget. My husband and I had just installed our deck, and we didn't think twice before opening the French doors and letting our dogs, Cassidy and Stella, outside to do their business. Yes, it was late and it was dark, but we'd done the same thing hundreds of times without incident.

In a flash, Cassidy was yelping, eyes closed, as Stella bared her teeth at a most unwelcome visitor - one wearing a black and white fur coat.

It didn't take us long to figure out what had happened. We'd been skunked.

The little terror had been hiding under our deck, and we were completely caught off guard. I quickly whipped up a baking soda and peroxide concoction, but if I had known then what I know now, I would've kept a bottle of NuHemp Botanicals Omega Zapp Dog Skunk Shampoo on hand for such an occasion. All it takes is one bath and the odor is gone, which is more than we can say for our lame attempts and doggie deodorizing.

That night - and many nights afterward - we could've also used the Dog Odor Eliminator. This small, fanlike device filters the air using Arm & Hammer baking soda, Zeolite and carbon, and it literally sucks the smell out of the air. What I would've given to plug this in next to our dogs' beds after our nocturnal skunk visit.

We can't rewrite the past, but with these dog problem-solvers, we'll have everything we need the next time all smell breaks loose.
