Nessa, a Maine Coon Cat mix, was adopted via the Broadway Barks adoption event in 2007. As you will see, Buddy the Golden Retriever clearly welcomed Nessa into the fold. We're not sure a dog and cat could snuggle any more! If you're near New York City, don't miss Saturday's Broadway Barks as Broadway stars, including Glenn Close work to help get dogs (and even cats like Nessa!) adopted. The event was started by dog lovers Mary Tyler Moore and Bernadette Peters. Bernadette Peters is the latest guest on Glenn Close's Lively Licks blog.
Broadway Barks is coming soon! Broadway stars appear at
the annual event to help New York City shelters. In this video from last year's
Broadway Barks dog adoption event, Audra McDonald and her daughter appear on
stage with four Great Danes
up for adoption. Broadway Barks was started by Bernadette Peters, the latest
guest on Glenn Close's Lively Licks
blog.
The annual Broadway Barks pet adoption event is coming up. It's July 12 on Shubert Alley, in the heart of Broadway and will feature some of the Broadway stage's biggest stars. In this video from 2004, Hugh Panaro and Sandra Johnson from The Phantom of the Opera show the crowd some really cute puppies that were available in New York City shelters. Broadway Barks was co-founded by Bernadette Peters, a dog adopter, dog lover and the current guest on Glenn Close's Lively Licks blog.
Glenn Close interviews Bernadette Peters, co-founder of Broadway Barks, in her latest Lively Licks blog post. In this video, Broadway star David Hyde Pierce shows off a Jack Russell Terrier up for adoption at last year's Broadway Barks event. He is familiar with the breed. Remember Eddy on Frasier? This year's Broadway Barks adoption event promises to be star-studded and is July 12.
Now here's a way for hot dogs to cool off! This is a video of Snickers, an Australian Kelpie, cooling off in what appears to be a dog park wading pool. The dogs are having a blast and keeping cool. We wish our dog park had a pool!
We love talking dog videos. Here's a new one, featuring Shakti, a Shiloh Shepherd Dog, "imitating the human greeting ritual," or, as you might describe it, saying "Hello!"
The dogs here at FetchDog love treats. What dog doesn't? We can get our dogs to do just about anything for their favorite little goody. Watch this video and see Tucker, a Black Lab, getting put through the paces by his owner. He definitely has his mind on the treat that's coming. On a side note: we love seeing kids get involved in dog training. It's good for both the dog and the young person. Tucker is not a puppy, but it looks like his girl has taught him some new tricks. Good dog!
Some dogs don't need waves to become surfing dogs. Watch this video shot at Florida's Gulf World Marine Park, where a dolphin gives a ride to a dog on a surfboard. Does the dog like it? We don't think he minds. We have a feeling it's all in a day's work for this dog.
We met Bill Campbell and his service dog, Pax, in Glenn Close's Lively Licks blog. Here's another service dog making a huge difference in someone's life. This dog, Ilia, sticks by Cole through everything, including medical procedures, physical therapy, and learning to walk. She's quite a dog, and Ilia and Cole make a super team. Be forewarned: our eyes got a tiny bit damp watching this one.
Watch Gus, a Chinese Crested Dog win the title "World's Ugliest Dog" in this video from the Sonoma- Marin Fair in California. Gus, who is missing an eye and a leg, is battling skin cancer and competed against several other Chinese Crested Dogs for the title, which his owner says is an honor. We were happy to see that these allegedly "ugly" dogs are apparently much loved by their owners, who cuddled and kissed them on stage. Chinese Crested Dogs are known for their loving and perky temperaments.
Watch this incredible dog video, OK, and cat video, featuring Tink the two-legged dachshund and Henry the three-legged cat. This dog and cat have a special friendship.
Some dogs love to swim, and some dogs are happy to just get wet when it's hot outside. A little bit of water is all you need to cool off, especially if your legs are only a few inches long. Watch Archie the Dachshund have a blast in his kiddie pool in this great dog video.
There's nothing like a stream of water on a hot day to make an agility dog leap for joy. Watch Gracie the Border Collie achieve some impressive air, not to mention a few twists, in this video.
Watch Molly, a Jack Russell Terrier, take a tour of her owner's book "Salty Dog," which is also reviewed in FetchDog's Book Hound. The book features great photos of dogs on the beach, including some of Molly learning to surf - sort of. Well, you'll see.
Greyhounds are one of Fetchdog's breeds in need, and fans of this long, lean, and loving breed of dog have posted videos promoting the adoption of former racing dogs. Watch this one, featuring the music of the band The Boonton Steamers playing "Every Dog Has His Day." Take a look and see Greyhounds at rest and at play.
We always thought of Jack Russell Terriers as the kind of dogs who dig burrowing in the dirt. But they'll dive in the water, too, as these videos prove. Nothing - dry or wet - can slow a Jack Russell down!
These four Chihuahuas don't know what to do when a toy dog on a string comes to call. Well, yes they do. Bark. Clearly, the toy dog is an invader come to take over their patio. This quartet would make an awesome alarm dog team. No toys would enter your house without you knowing it. Enjoy.
All dogs have their own tricks. Here, Trooper the dog climbs a ladder (we think to get on top of a couch lying on its side) on command. Also on command, Trooper leaps back to his comfortable chair.
Here's a moving video about a wonderful rescue organization in California, Much Love Animal Rescue. Much Love never gives up on dogs (or cats) and is one of the rescue groups that finds homes for senior dogs, like Scarlet, the senior dachshund who stars in this Glenn Close-narrated video in the Fetchdog Adoption Center.
Clicker training is really something to behold when the dog has been trained in this technique. Watch Trish McMillan, director of Animal Behavior at the ASPCA give a clicker training demonstration.
Get an underwater view of a dog's first swim in this nice above- and under-water film. We think she liked her bone better than the swim. (We liked the soundtrack.)
So how do sled dogs train when there's no white stuff on the ground? Here are two videos (one taken from the sled, the other at a distance) of Samoyed teams during dry land training sessions.
These Wheaton Terriers look happy to be out on a summer sail with their family. We're happy to see they are outfitted with PFDs, making their sail not only fun but safe.
Some howling dogs don't have great timing. We're sure this one didn't have anything against the marriage of Doug and Jen, who were just about to tie and knot when the howling began. Fortunately, it looks like everyone had a sense of humor about the howling!
Dogs are great as members of the wedding party - but only if they're well-trained. Watch this video as Minty learns how, on the command "rings," to untie the ribbon on a box, pull out a bag containing the wedding rings, and bring them to her owner. What a ring bearer!
In June, 2007, 178 dog couples participated in a dog "marriage" ceremony in Aspen Grove, Colo., wedding their way into the Guinness World Record book. No word on the happy couples' honeymoon plans.
We don't usually run music videos on Sit. Stay. Watch. But we couldn't resist "Jump Into This" by the band Seven Foot Wave once we saw it featured a wedding featuring dogs - bride, groom, officiant, guests, and all. Enjoy.
Here at FetchDog, we are suckers for Dalmatian puppies, or any puppies. Eleven Dalmatian puppies are pretty loud. One can only imagine how loud the famous 101 Damatians would be!
People around the country adopted dogs stranded by Hurricane Katrina, including "Kiki," shown in her foster home in this video. Read about MuttShack Animal Rescue, which rescued many dogs and other animals in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, in Glenn Closes Lively Licks interview with MuttShack's Amanda and Marty St. John.
Glenn Close talks to the people behind MuttShack Animal Rescue, which took on the breathtaking task of trying to rescue New Orleans' animals following Hurricane Katrina and continues to work for animals in disasters, in her new Lively Licks blog post. Watch this video of images of dogs and people following Hurricane Katrina.
Glenn Close interviews Amanda and Martin St. John of MuttShack about their organization's work rescuing animals after Hurricane Katrina in her latest Lively Licks post. Watch this compelling video about MuttShack's work, the progress it has made, and how you can help MuttShack make a difference the next time disaster strikes.
Watch this Yellow Lab repeatedly refuse to walk through a storm door that has had its glass removed in this hilarious video. YouTube comments call this a dumb dog over and over again. But we're thinking he's pretty smart. Watch and decide for yourself.
Watch the Life of Riley and Rosey, two English Bulldogs in California, who look to have it pretty good, with a vanity plate on the wagon, sun shining on their happy faces, and life with the founder of HauteDogs. That means guaranteed attendance at the Long Beach Bulldog Beauty contest, Easter Parade and other fun canine events.
Who needs Dancing With the Stars when you can watch two poodles playing like this?
Once you're done watching the real video of real poodles playing so gracefully, watch this parody of a workout video featuring lycra-wearing woman poodles and a poodle woman.
Here's a nice video of a bunch of dogs having a blast and getting their exercise at a Pensacola dog park. (Warning: unless your dog park is on a beautiful beach, next to what must be some really warm ocean water, you may become jealous while watching this.) At first we thought this must be a park for really, really big dogs, then a tiny little white dog appeared. Everyone, owners and dogs alike, in this video is happy and safe, just like this week's FetchDog story, Dog Park Safety advises.
Agility competitions are fun to watch from the sidelines, but as this video shows, it's even more fun to watch agility from the dog's point of view. Check it out, and see what this top-notch competitor sees while running, weaving and jumping through an agility course. Then check out this agility dog's blog!
Here at FetchDog, we like dogs, balls, and gadgets, so we were taken with this video of a Jack Russell Terrier playing with a virtual soccer ball. Some dogs might be frustrated by the lack of an actual ball, but this girl doesn’t seem to mind. She’s having a blast.
Charlie the German Shepherd helps his people in the garden. He digs industriously, but only where his owner tells him to. An English Setter sitting nearby couldn't look less interested. Hey, one gardening dog per house is enough!
Here's a dog who can behave in the garden! Watch Roxy the Pit Bull admire the day lilies in this lovely video. She even gives them a nudge to watch them sway.
Here's the problem with a puppy let loose in the garden. Pretty cute, unless you liked that tulip. Fortunately, the portion of tulips that is toxic to dogs is the actual bulb, but that's not the case with every plant growing in people's gardening, so it's a good idea to keep puppy on a leash until you've got your garden manners down - or you've got your video camera handy and a non-toxic plant ready for attack! Meanwhile check out the advice in Garden Friendly Dogs, Dog Friendly Gardens for help on getting your garden and your dog to peacefully co-exist.
There are at least three Bernese Mountain Dogs at this garden party. That little black dog is definitely not a Bernese Mountain Dog, but he’s joining in the fun!
