The Greyhound is one of the two most routinely abused dog breeds in America (the other is the Pit Bull).  Thankfully, many organizations around the country are dedicated to rescuing and rehoming these beautiful dogs from a career of literally running for their lives.

If you live in the vicinity of Philadelphia and you're in the market to adopt a "greyt" - not to mention "greytful" - dog, check out "Greyhound Sunday" this Sunday, August 2, from 9-11 a.m. at 4800 Wingate Street.  There, you can enjoy bagels, juice, and coffee, and mingle with gorgeous, adoptable greyhounds who have downshifted from racetrack life and are ready to become wonderful family pets.  If you have any old towels, please bring them along.

"Greyhound Sunday" is a monthly event organized by the excellent National Greyhound Adoption Program.  Visit the site to learn about more events on NGAP's calendar, including the August 15 "Your Dog is Worth It Too" to benefit the Susan B. Komen Rave for the Cure, which draws more than 5,000 dogs and people annually.
