This Sunday, August 23, the Museum of the City of New York presents a special program called "Behind the Lens: New York City's Shelter Dogs."

Photographer Charlotte Dumas will speak about her portraits of shelter dogs, including several stunning images of sweet pit bulls.  These are on view through September 13 as part of the exhibition "Dutch Seen: New York Rediscovered," which showcases the work of 13 contemporary Dutch photographers.  Dumas has focused her career on photographing animals, including stray dogs in Palermo, Italy, and wolves in Norway, Sweden, and the United States.

Following the artist's talk, dog handlers from one of Fetchdog's favorite shelters, Animal Care & Control of New York City will discuss their work rescuing, caring for, and rehoming homeless and abandoned animals throughout the city's five boroughs.

The program starts at 2 PM. Admission is free with Museum admission; reservations are recommended.  The museum is located at 1220 Fifth Avenue, at 103rd Street; call 212-534-1672, ext. 3395 for information.
