Hilary Swank helps homeless dogs go "Home 4 the Holidays"

Here at FetchDog, we have first-hand experience with how star power can help shine a much-needed spotlight on homeless dogs, and connect them with loving forever homes - our own Glenn Close fostered an adorable pit bull mix named Sweet Pea until the dog was successfully adopted. Now another A-list actress is dedicating herself to dog adoption: Hilary Swank.

The two-time Academy Award winner is the campaign ambassador for Iams Home 4 the Holidays (IH4TH), the goal of which is to find homes for 1.5 million orphaned pets by January 4, 2010.

"It's so rewarding to look into an adopted animal's eyes and see how thankful they are that you saved their life," Swank says. "I am a true believer in pet adoption and have rescued many animals throughout my life. I hope everyone will join our mission this holiday season so more pets can experience the gift of love and family."

Over the past decade, IH4TH has helped 3 million animals find homes, with more than 1.2 million pets adopted into new families in 2008 alone. One of those lucky dogs is Rumi, a Golden Retriever mix that Swank met and adopted while visiting a participating IH4TH animal shelter in Los Angeles last October. Rumi now lives with Swank and her other dog, Karoo, a formerly stray Corgi mix who crossed paths with Swank while she was filming in South Africa, and later played a walk-on part in Clint Eastwood's "Million Dollar Baby."
