Dogs make a house a home - shop for your space accordingly

On Thursday evening of last week, this blogger was invited to speak as one of Apartment Therapy's (www.apartmenttherapy.com) chosen panel of experts on pets and design. The event took place at the swank Design Within Reach (www.dwr.com) store in New York's SoHo, and several dogs turned up, including a Bulldog who tried to drink bottled water out of a small plastic cup as elegantly as he could.

The theme of the evening was keeping pets and a high-style home. The two are absolutely not mutually exclusive, as many innovative products prove. In fact, some products for dogs are so high-style that they actually enhance an interior, whether it's the Contempo Dog Bowl Set that echoes the clean lines of design icon Eileen Gray's metal-and-glass end table, a dog bowl designed to look like modern sculpture, or a high-style dog bed covered in the very same Marimekko fabric once chosen by Jackie Kennedy.

Happily, many stylish shopping options are right here, enabling you to experience animal house style - because dogs, not design, are what make a house a home.
