Celebrate World Animal Day with your dog

October 4 is World Animal Day, and FetchDog is proud to celebrate it in honor of our dogs.  Launched in the United Kingdom in 2003, World Animal Day is observed each year on the same date.

The mission is to celebrate animal life in all its forms; to celebrate humankind's relationship with the animal kingdom; to acknowledge the diverse roles that animals play in our lives, from being our companions, supporting and helping us, to bringing a sense of wonder into our lives; and to be thankful for the ways in which animals enrich our lives.

It's a great excuse to spend extra time playing outdoors with your dog, fetch him a special treat or toy or just give him a hug!

World Animal Day was started in 1931 at a convention of ecologists in Florence, as a way of highlighting the plight of endangered species.  Since then it has grown to encompass all kinds of animal life and is widely celebrated in countries throughout the world.  Find out how you and your dog can get involved here.

Incidentally, the date October 4 was chosen because it is also the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals.  Inquire at your local church about animal blessing services, at which dogs and other pets are welcome.
