Best-selling author Dean Koontz makes radio appearance to promote new dog book

By Julia Szabo

This Saturday, September 12, best-selling author Dean Koontz will appear on Animal Radio, the "most-listened-to" animal programming in the US.

Koontz is a frequent guest-host of this popular syndicated animal talk program; this weekend, he returns as a guest to discuss A Big Little Life: A Memoir of a Joyful Dog.  The famed novelist's first non-fiction title is a celebration of Trixie, a Golden Retriever trained by Canine Companions for Independence. After an injury caused her to retire prematurely from service-dog duty, the multi-nicknamed Trixie - a.k.a."The Trickster", a.k.a. "Short Stuff" was subsequently adopted by Koontz and his wife Gerda.

Trixie positively impacted Koontz's life both professionally and personally.  Her playful presence not only changed Koontz's work schedule- he gladly altered his writing hours to accommodate Trixie's recreational requirements - but also she made him realize that dogs are intelligent creatures with a lot of soul.  An earlier Trixie tribute was last year's delightful read Bliss to You, which the dog "authored" herself (with a little help from her best-selling friend, Koontz).

To the delight of Koontz fans, the new book reveals exactly which of his novels were directly influenced by his four-footed muse.  The Darkest Evening of the Year and Midnight, in which dogs play an important role, are certainly on the list, but they're not the only ones.

Listen to the broadcast on any one of the 90+ AM or FM radio affiliates or on XM Satellite Radio ch. 158 (America's Talk)  Saturday at noon EST; the show will be rebroadcast Sunday at 5 p.m. EST.  For additional listening options and times, go here.
