Behind the Scenes on Charlie Wilson's War

The gorgeous greyhounds gliding effortlessly through their scenes with Julia Roberts in Charlie Wilson's War were discovered and prepped for their turn in the spotlight by Broadway's go-to trainer William Berloni.

Berloni is also the training talent behind the performing sensation known as Chico the chihuahua, of Legally Blonde: The Musical fame.

The greyhounds, Mia and Winnie, live in upstate New York and are the only titled obedience greyhounds in the country. Greyhounds are known for their naturally fleet feet, so getting these two to downshift took some doing. "We spent months teaching the dogs to walk slowly - their instinct is to bound," Berloni explains. "But they had no problem slowing down when we held treats in our hands!"

The glamorous Greyhound girls keep pace perfectly with Roberts in her big entrance scene, as she sweeps - with slow, stately steps - in to the room to greet Tom Hanks. One of them, however, proved silent but deadly during the filming of a key bedroom scene. Somewhere on the cutting-room floor is footage of Julia Roberts, a dog owner in real as well as reel life, laughing and exclaiming, "Do I smell dog fart?!"
