Actor Richard Belzer appears at pet adoption event urging political animals to adopt

Starting at noon today at the Petco location on Manhattan's Upper East Side, Law & Order: SVU star Richard Belzer will unveil his newest character: Uncle Sam. He's got an urgent call to action: "We want YOU ... to adopt!"
 
In this historic "Paw-idential" election year, Belzer's Uncle Sam has this important message for all political animals, be they "Demo-cat" or "Republic-canine": get a pet from your local animal shelter.
 
In a PSA created to raise awareness for two excellent New York shelters, North Shore Animal League America and Animal Haven, Belzer drives the paw-litical point home by posing for photographer Michael Cogliantry in full Uncle Sam drag with his own cabinet of capital dogs and cats, all of them rescued: Bebe, Django, and the very patriotically-named George and Martha.
