The ulimate backlight

They don't dive into the waves after a tennis ball or a stick.

They don't blindside you in their exuberance and knock you over.

Noble dog on flotsam
They will fetch something once... maybe... if they feel like it.

They pee on bunches of seaweed, flotsam as well as jetsam and the odd kiddie toy, although sandcastles are their favorite.

They tear off when they see another dog and then have second thoughts, upon closer view, and peel away in a wide sweep back to you.

They periodically run over to make sure you're okay, occasionally jumping up to plant wet, sandy paw-prints on your shorts.

They always check to make sure you are still headed in the same direction as they are.

They distain seagulls.

They are partial to other little white dogs.

They can be fooled by the cool wetness of the waves and take the occasional drink. (I must clarify that only Bill does this, not Jake, who knows the difference.)

Any carcass is open game... to roll in it is bliss.

They are oblivious to Beach Bocce games in progress.

They wouldn't be anywhere else for all the freeze-dried lamb lung in the world.

The above is not true.

This is our Favourite Blog!! I can't wait to look at these wonderful pictures on a frosty January night!! I can smell that tangy beach air just looking at your "kids" having the time of their lives! We take our 3 Whippets to our cottage alot & they run like the wind on the beach-they are "miniature Greyhounds" after all. They do hate the water...strange as they LOVE the snow? They can't think of anything better than to roll in an old rotten carp on the beach. I suppose they'd say it's their gain & our loss! Thankyou so much for this blissful Blog! It almost makes me look forward to January! Brrrrr! Keep them coming Glenn. Ken & Arthur Blankstein-Ure, Canada.

I love it! My dog loves the beach too (especially when she can meet new friends there), but I don't know how she can stand the cold Maine water. I know you must travel a lot with your dogs and I was wondering if you could write a little about how that works. What is air travel like for a small dog? How do you handle bathroom trips? Is there etiquette to be especially aware of when traveling with dogs? I also worry about how dogs handle such an event and wonder if it's even worth bringing her if I'll only be gone a week or two. I have a Boston Terrier and don't have any tips planned at the moment. If I did my only option would be to board her, which makes for a lonely journey. The thought of bringing her is a little overwhelming though. Thanks! Natalie

Dear Glenn - Your two doggies are absolutely adorable! Oh my gosh! I would love to see them running and sniffing and rolling along the beach! You are so lucky to have those baby loves in your life! Please give them hugs for me!!! Linda L, South Florida
