Jake's notes:

Humans are gathered around a big table. Blah-blah-blah.

A dog's outside! I vocalize my concern and Dave lifts me onto the windowsill.

It's a Bernese Mountain Dog in a truck. He's not happy. Luckily, all the truck's windows are open.

Dave shares his coffee with me. Yuck!

Now someone is waving her arms around in front of a big white board. Blah-blah-blah.

Grace, our CEO's Springer Spaniel, sashays in. Bill and I are obliged to spend a few minutes going through the routine greeting. She's been to the beach. She has major attitude. Who cares if she's a purebred if she can't be nice! Speaking as an Alpha-dog, the best thing is to let her keep thinking she runs the place.

Blah-blah-blah. I don't know what's so interesting about that big, white board, but everyone's staring at it like it's a chipmunk hole. Blah-blah-blah. All their heads are nodding.

Intriguing scent in the carpet.

(They've just moved into this place and haven't done it over yet.) Very interesting. I'd say someone dropped a pretty nice piece of ham here ... maybe a year and a half ago. Honey-ham ... from a quality deli ... not processed.

Blah-blah-blah. Something's making them laugh. I guess they must find something funny in all the squiggles on the white board ... whatever.

A quick check under the table. No bagel or muffin crumbs. Nobody ate breakfast here. Ah ... here's a vague intimation of tuna ... six months old ... packed in water, not oil. Oh and here is something vaguely Tex-Mex ... I'd say about 3 years old ... maybe the last occupants ... onions and red beans ... sour cream ... spicy ... a faint whiff of cilantro. Whoa! Right here by the table leg some dog did an invisible no-no. Female ... spayed ... middle-aged ... into Greenies. Grace! And I bet she blamed it on someone else.

Blah-blah-blah. Glenn seems to be here until the end. That sniff of coffee wasn't good for my reflux and the blah-blah-blah is like white noise. I'd better lie down ... one turn ... two turns ... three turns ... ah-h-h ... perfect. Blah-blah-blah-bla-bl-b-b-a ... a ... a ... a ... z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z.

About the Author
Welcome to LIVELY LICKS: Profiles of Dogs and their People.
I hope that you will be entertained, comforted and inspired by the people and dogs that I have the privilege of featuring on this blog. Since starting it over a year and a half ago, it has pulled me into an incredible journey. Besides being able to celebrate some of my wonderful friends and the profound bond they have with their dogs, LIVELY LICKS has introduced me to the world of avalanche dogs, bomb-sniffing dogs, service dogs for our wounded warriors and dogs in need of rescue and adoption. I have been inspired by the selfless dedication of the people who run grassroots shelters as well as urban care and control centers. I have been deeply moved by their stories in which dogs heal and empower their humans. Those of us who have dogs, know how much they enhance our quality of life with their unquestioning loyalty and unconditional love. There are an infinite number of stories to tell, so I hope you will stay with me as I continue to explore and discover and delight in the journey.
