Maine elementary school making a world of difference: Roots and Shoots

Hello!!!

We are the Super Shoots from Kennebunk, ME.  We go to Sea Road School and are in the 4th grade.  Roots and Shoots is an organization of many groups of kids from all over the world that do community service.  There are three main things that we focus on helping in Roots and Shoots.  Those three things are the environment, animals and people.  We have done projects in each category.  For example, we made gingerbread houses and gave them to people in our community who didn't expect them, we created an environmental newsletter to teach our classmates about "green" issues and we organized a linen drive for our local animal shelter, Animal Welfare Society of Maine.

We will tell you a little more about that.  The shelter always needs linens for animal beds because there are more animals than beds.  Our local animal shelter rescues about 4,000 animals a year.  That's a lot of animal beds to keep clean!  So they always need new beds.  Our shelter also needs Frontline and kitty litter, so maybe we will collect these products next.  Jane Goodall has inspired us and many others with her love for improving our world.  We do Roots and Shoots to try to continue her message because we love to help the environment and we want to help people and animals in need.  Maybe you could start a Roots and Shoots group where you live.

Goodbye and thank you for looking at our blog.
