Getting ready for Glenn Close to appear on The View

Posted on Jun 15, 2008 By Emily Bruce Comments(3)

This week has been a little bit of a whirlwind, which is actually normal here at the FetchDog office; the past few days it was because Glenn Close is going to be on ABC's The View on Monday. We're all very excited she has been invited to appear because she's got a great story to tell. She recently interviewed Bill Campbell, an Iraq war vet with a special dog, in her most recent Lively Licks blog post.

This incredibly moving story is the kind we love around here. An organization we support, Puppies Behind Bars, has a program where they work with inmates to train dogs who then become service dogs for people in need. In their "Dog Tags" program the service dogs are specifically trained to help returning war veterans. It's tremendously powerful to see how the interaction with these dogs uplifts both the life and rehabilitation of the inmates as well as provide companionship, support and healing for the veterans. We're all very proud of Glenn and her outreach on behalf of this cause.

One of the reasons this week was a little more hectic than normal was because we had to gather products to send to the studio audience of The View. We contacted our good friends here in Maine at the company My Good Dog and they generously donated dog toys for everyone who will be in the audience. They sent the highly durable and much loved Chewy Shoe as well as the Throw Me a Rope Ball.

We also had to coordinate getting catalogs to the studio so everyone there could learn more about FetchDog. If you're not already on our mailing list, sign up now and we'll send you our free catalog.

Hope you get a chance to see the show and check out Glenn Close's Lively Licks Blog post with Bill Campbell, Iraq War Vet. Find out when The View airs in your town: http://abc.go.com/daytime/theview/whentowatch

I saw Glenn on The View today and I was just in admiration over what her and her husband have done to create this wonderful site. My husband and I breed Great Danes for Service Training and Home Bound individuals. I have been disabled since 1992, have my second Service Dog, he is certified and trained for mobility. I trained my first one, then I attended a training program and trained my second dog, which certified in 12 months. Now in the process of preparing and training a young one for his backup. We have been fortunate to place all pups so far for service work. I also provide my assistance in training for all pups placed at no charge. Our web site is www.azdragondanes.com, should you care to check it out. We hope to provide dogs for who ever may need their assistance, including the military. Glenn's appearance today was so refreshing and I hope more get involved in this wonderful cause. We also have 'jail puppies' here in Arizona. How can we get more involved with Fetch Dog? Sincerely, Deb Bettis

DEAR GLENN, FOR 17 YEARS I HAD MS. I HAVE 3 OTHER "KIDS", ALL RESCUES FROM THE STREETS OF NY, I LOVE THEM ALL BUT COURTNEY WAS MY COMPANION AND LIFE PARTNER. I WILL MISS HER UNTIL I DIE AND I SURE HOPE I CAN GO WHEREVER SHE IS, BECAUSE I KNOW IT WILL BE PARADISE. THANKS FOR THIS SITE AND FOR LOVING DOGS AS MUCH AS YOU DO. I saw the Glenn Closeinterview and love, love, loved it! It's amazing the unconditional love our dogs can give to us. The good an animal can do for our vets is impressive especially for Bill Campbell. A while ago, I saw a piece on the Puppies Behind Bars program. I am impressed with how those inmates related to the dogs. We should all be pleased that these dogs can bring so much to those they assist. Jodie of www.puttinonthedogshop.com
