Your Dog's Collar Is As Important As Your Kid's Shoes

A recent article from the Associated Press stated that despite the current economic recession, people are not curtailing their spending on dog supplies.  According to the article, Americans will spend $43.4 billion on their pets this year, up 26% from 2004.  A large portion of that goes to dog food and supplements, which naturally owners Pink Dog Raincoatwould not cut back on, but who would have thought that Fido's collar collection would not be affected by Wall Street's woes?  Dog boutique store owners admitted that while higher end products such as faux fur sweaters and gem studded collars are not selling as well, the lower and moderately priced products are moving.  This is further proof that dogs have moved far up the food chain in Americans' lives beyond being property - they are members of the family.  Just as you continue to purchase new shoes for your child, the beloved canine will still be getting her new dog boots this winter.  And why shouldn't she?

Obama's Presidential Puppy

President-elect Barack Obama made it official last night in his acceptance speech - his daughters are getting a new puppy!  We at FetchDog always put Country First and therefore have collected our recommendations for the top puppy supplies the Obama's need to welcome their new puppy to the White House.

Jamie - The Doggie Septic System to keep the White House Lawn in top shape for the annual Easter Egg Hunt.

Jess - BioBags - Even the president has to take care of his dog's business, and of course, in an eco-friendly way.

Stephanie - A personalized eco-friendly hemp collar that reads FIRST DOG.  Make sure to include the address on his dog tag in case he gets lost.

Emily - Given the fiscal challenges ahead, they should pick a high quality dog bed on sale from the Discount Dog Bed shop.

Doug - The personalized pet mat to be placed at the White House front door that says "Welcome to the White House, The First Puppy".

Kathy - Puppy training bells to be hung from the door to the oval office.

Malcolm - An anti-bloat bowl, we don't need the first puppy to suffer from dog bloat and throw up in the oval office.

Kristen - Pickup sticks to make sure there are no "surprises" left in the rose garden.

Video of Glenn Close on the Rachael Ray Show

On October 21, Glenn Close had the privilege of appearing on the Rachael Ray Show.  And she didn't come alone.  Accompanying her was Sweet Pea, a rescued vizsla/pitt bull mix Glenn was fostering in hopes of finding her a good home.  Like most rescue dogs, Sweet Pea is the victim of circumstance - she was abandoned after her owners were evicted from their apartment.  The following video follows Glenn as she visits some of the hundreds of thousands of animals currently being cared for by the many animal welfare organizations in New York City.  And of course, at the end of her journey is Sweet Pea, who, as you will see, is well deserving of her name.

Glenn's appearance on the Rachael Ray Show was part of FetchDog's on-going focus on dog adoption, of which Glenn, Rachael and FetchDog are all passionate advocates.  If you're going to bring a dog into your life, consider adopting a dog.  For more information on dog adoption, please visit our Adoption Center, where you'll find information and resources on rescuing a dog.

And Sweet Pea the dog?  Stay tuned to Lively Licks, Glenn Close's dog blog for an update - hint - it's a happy ending!

Glenn Close to Appear on Rachael Ray to Promote Dog Adoption.

One of the many interesting parts of my job at FetchDog is getting exposure to aspects of life that I never knew about before, such as what goes into preparing for a segment on a daytime talk show. The past several weeks, we've been getting ready for Glenn Close to appear on the Rachael Ray show.

In preparation for the show as well as for the launch of our new dog adoption center, we've been combing through articles and stories about dog adoption and rescue dogs. The outcome has been a new and improved our Dog Adoption Center, a Charitable shop for Rachael Ray and a new email series called Adoption Insights - a special email with a expert's point of view on the ins and outs of dog adoption

Given FetchDog's and Glenn's commitment to dog adoption and Rachael's well known love for rescued pit bulls, the partnership on the topic was a natural fit. Rather than just talk about the issue, Glenn has been living the role for the past month as she took in a foster dog - Sweet Pea. Viewers will get a unique glimpse at the softer side of Glenn Close, in stark contrast to the characters she typically portrays.

Glenn also discusses the topic of dog adoption with Rachael Ray in her latest dog blog, Lively Licks. To further show her support, Rachael launched her charitable shop at FetchDog to benefit the Picasso Veterinary Fund. The Picasso Veterinary Fund pays for the medical treatments for these shelter animals and gives them a second chance at becoming loving pets.

We think Sweet Pea's story will be the next of hopefully a long list of dog adoption stories with happy endings. If you have a story you'd like to share, post a comment below, we'd love to hear from you!
