Shrek 2 (Dreamworks Animated, 2004, 92 minutes) - add this to your Netflix queue

In this hilarious sequel to the instant-classic, postmodern fairy tale Shrek - which gets a nice callout in I Am Legend when Will Smith recites dialogue verbatim - the green ogre (voiced by Mike Myers), his new bride, Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz), and Donkey (Eddie Murphy) travel to visit Fiona's parents (John Cleese and Julie Andrews) at their castle in Far, Far Away.

The sequel's paws-down scene-stealer is a cavalier cat named Puss in Boots, exquisitely voiced by Antonio Banderas. But unlike the first and third Shreks, this movie is not entirely without dogs.

Trailing clouds of lavender fairy dust, Fairy Godmother (Jennifer Saunders) schemes to seduce Fiona with promises of a "happily ever after" complete with custom furniture, clothes, "a prince with a ton of cash," plus "a sexy man-boy chauffeur." Then she throws in a deal sweetener: "Oh what the hey, have a Bichon Frisé," F.G. says, gifting the princess with a fluffy new pet wearing a bright pink bow. She's not named, but the Bichon does appear in "Far, Far Away Idol" on the Special Features menu.

Meanwhile, the offspring of Donkey and his lady-love Dragon are interesting cross-breeds indeed, resembling a litter of adorable, fire-breathing puppies.
