Marley & Me

Comments(1) Even if you didn't much care for author John Grogan's phenomenal best-selling book of the same title, odds are you will find this movie adaptation impossible to resist. With "Marley & Me," director David Frankel ("The Devil Wears Prada") has made a hilarious, heartfelt film that celebrates dogs - not as mere pets, but as full-fledged members of the family.

Owen Wilson plays Grogan; Jennifer Aniston is his wife Jenny. When this couple of successful journalists invite an adorable yellow labrador puppy named Marley into their orderly life, the unruly pup promptly earns himself the dubious distinction "world's worst dog."

But despite inflicting a jaw-dropping amount of property damage, Marley manages to teach his people the most valuable lesson of all: how to be a family. The so-called "world's worst dog" also brings out the best in Grogan, helping him evolve into one of the country's most popular newspaper columnists.

Audiences get to see Marley's journey from puppy to adolescent to rascally adult. And we're not spared the toughest part of dog ownership: Making the decision to end a frail senior dog's suffering at the vet's office. Not many movies about dogs reveal the actual process of euthanasia; "Marley & Me" is not afraid to do exactly that. (Be warned: You'll need Kleenex for the film's finale, and lots of it - and those scenes will be too much for very young kids.)

after loosing our blk lab a neighbor gave my husband this book for me to read hoping it would bring me comfort it was difficult for me to start the book but when i did i couldnt put it down, however there were alot of tears. my husband and i said that at out age then 58 we would not get another dog the hurt was still their and i didnt want to ever hurt again the way matattas passing lefted us..in nov of 06 my husband called while i was out doing errands his brother had stopped by and told him of a co-worker who had a litter of choclate labs ready for choosing he wanted me to call the lady and see if i could look at them with much disagreement i went but when i saw those darling little ones i wondered if this was about to be a new journey. soon i had picked one out carefully watching these beautiful babies i was now sure of my choice but she had forgotten to tell me to bring a collar so she found a piece of ribbon and tied it on her. i returned home and shared this with my husband and we decide it was best to go purchase a collar before he joined me to view the priceless choice.upon debbie answering the door she looked among the pups to make sure the ribbon was in tacted and it was, letting us in not but 4' away from the puppies she went to pick ours up and the ribbon was now gone she was so upset,so i had to begin my search again which i was sure i could find her after 45 minutes i was sure of the one i chose and my husband agreed as well placing her collar on her we were so excited but she still had to stay another week.we visted alot and the week passed quickly and christmas eve we brought her home.the new bundle of joy.. maddie has become a beautiful shiny choc lab and has filled our hearts with so much happiness i cant imagine life without her shes very attached to me especially and i have found that she is a working dog with alot of eagerness to learn so i have decided to put that energy to use im trianing her for dock jumping and frizeebee toss shes loving and gentle and i couldnt imagine our lives with out her she has filled that void of our loss and i truely feel it was what matatta wanted for us. iam so glad i read the book it was a new beginning for us. we recently went to see the movie and rating the movie i would say it was cute but the book was so much better i cried of course cause i knew the story so much was lefted out for me and even though i thought i was healed the movie was hard for me at the ending. after matattas misfortune we were unable to be with her when they put her down the vet would not allow that she was the only one i didnt get to hold when she took her journey to heaven i never have gotten over that she deserved that and it was taken from us being on vacation and going to a vet you dont know is terrible when you have no say.so in closing id like to say the book was excellant and the movie was moving but iam so glad i read the book first it was the best. be sure and take tissue! Sincerely,L.Blanchard
