The cover title of this book is written exactly as follows, "Rescue Tails*." Note the little asterisk as it connects to two very important sentences: "*Buy This Book. Save a Dog." Master photographer Brian Nice makes no effort to hide his ulterior motives for creating this collection and indeed proceeds from "Rescue Tails" will benefit two well-deserving no-kill shelters--the Humane Society of New York and Much Love Animal Rescue in L.A.

Inside you'll find lovely black and white photos of celebrities in candid moments with their doggie family members. See tough guy Mickey Rourke lounging with his tiny Chihuahua or Melissa Rivers sharing a bath with her rescued dog Mike. Almost every face is instantly recognizable and some may surprise you with the canine company they keep. For instance, beauty Brooke Shields is paired with her gentle-giant pit-mix Darla, whom she says, "...has been my quiet support during the worst times of my life."

Like Shields, most celebrities have provided a quick note and an autograph. Where there is space left over Nice has filled it in with dog-friendly advice from the Humane Society and this startling statistic from Much Love Animal Rescue, "Four million animals are euthanized each year in the United States...that is 300,000 a month...and over 11,000 each day."

The photographs really drive home the point that dogs make people more accessible, even the famous ones. But you don't have to be rich or famous to give a dog a good home. In exchange for a little love, a dog will make you feel as much of a celebrity as those pictured, every day of your life. "Rescue Tails" is a perfectly suited coffee table book with a good cause behind it, really what more could you want?
