Continuing with the dog nutrition theme from the last review, here's another doggie cookbook worth looking at:  Organic Dog Biscuit Cookbook. This one hails from the great borough of Brooklyn, New York (versus the California born The Natural Pet Food Cookbook.) Though authors Jessica and Eric Talley can't claim culinary diplomas like Wendy Nan Rees, they too have founded a dog treat enterprise for want of healthier options for their dogs rescued pit bull Bubba, greyhound Rose, and shih tzu Weeble. Their experience owning and operating the Bubba Rose Biscuit Company since 2006 has outfitted them with over 100 recipes to share.

The Organic Dog Biscuit Cookbook's pale blue textured hard cover gives it a classic home country look so it'll fit right in on your kitchen shelf and hold up well against dripping liquids, spattered batter, and giant tongues searching for spillage. You can find the same warm tones on the inside, with deep green and brown pages harboring recipes for small town diner favorites like Grilled Cheese with Bacon and Fish and Chips. Even the desserts found in the Cookie Jar section give you a warm fuzzy feeling with names like"Snickerdoodle"poodle"poos" and "Plumpkins".

Organic Dog Biscuit Cookbook redefines the term comprehensive. Both the rolling pin and aluminum foil get their own paragraphs. While Rees (The Natural Pet Food Cookbook) offers substitutes to common canine allergens, the Talleys omit wheat, soy, and corn altogether. Dogs with a pickier palate can be satiated from menus entitled The Silver Platter and 5th Avenue Decadence. And if you can't think of a reason to celebrate with some goodies, well the Talleys have provided that too. See Chapter 1, a list of holidays by month, for what to serve in March  or October (Luck of the Irish Wolfhound and Bark O'Lanterns, respectively).

Pair Organic Dog Biscuit Cookbook with the modern design and chic meal ideas of The Natural Pet Food Cookbook and you've got a complete kitchen gift set for anyone interested in taking a more active role in their dog's diet. Or keep them for yourself, whip up some organic dog biscuits and natural kibble, and give those for gifts around the holidays. Either way you're getting bang for your buck with books that serve a practical purpose towards health, happiness, and a growing bond between you and your dog.

Like the idea of giving healthier treats but would rather spend your free time hiking with your pooch? You can always have the Talley's do the work for you by ordering the biscuits already made from their website www.bubbarose.com.
