Temperatures are rising in the New York City metro area. Before you and your dog's outdoor activities are limited to a dip in a, well, wherever canines can legally take a dip in NYC, followed by a siesta in the shade why not get out there and explore your city on foot? There truly is no better way to discover the hidden gems of a teeming metropolis like the Big Apple than by strolling the streets and checking things out. Don't know where to begin? How about with Nadia Zonis's "City Walks With Dogs: New York," which caters to your favorite walking partner and best four-legged friend for fifty self-guided tours.

"City Walks with Dogs" does not conform to the traditional literary format. Unlike a standard book, the idea here is to lighten your load and encourage you to get off the couch so "City Walks with Dogs" has conveniently provided all the information for each walk on one of fifty cards. Each card has a detailed and easy-to-follow map on one side and a description of a dog-friendly walk on the other side. The cards cover each of the five boroughs and even a hike around Roosevelt Island. Whether you and your pooch are into exploring a trendy neighborhood like the West Village in Manhattan or checking out a historic airfield on Long Island, there's something for everyone.

Zonis includes dog-friendly places to stop for a snack, shop for some kibble, let loose in a local dog run, or take that refreshing dip we were looking for in the first paragraph. The intro to the deck is short and sweet so you can get right down to business. As a Fetchdog fan you have access to the best in leash and collar-wear, which are must-have's for all the walking you'll be doing and as a Book Hound loyalist, you've already read "No Pet Left Behind," which can assist you in getting your dog safely to the start of these destination walks; whether via subway, bus, train, cab, or car.

Walking is an inexpensive way to enjoy what can be a very expensive place to live; not to mention it's a great form of exercise for both you and your dog. The best part is you don't have to be a New Yorker to enjoy these walks, so plan a day trip or a weekend outing and come enjoy one of the most unique and dog-friendly cities on earth.
